Italian LEGO fans have set a new record for the world’s tallest LEGO tower, standing at an impressive 35.05 metres high.

The tower was built in the Italian city of Milan and was completed after a five day building process that involved more than half a million LEGO bricks.
18,000 volunteer workers and families were called upon to help set the record that was previously held by a 34.76 metre tall tower built in Bucharest.

Under the watchful eyes of officials from the Guiness Book of World Records, the final piece of the tower was put in place by X-Factor Italy presenter Alessandro Cattelan, who completed the build with the aid of a cherry picker.

The record-breaking feat was organised by LEGO who donated €7 to an Italian development programme for every centimeter of the tower built.

“Each small brick was important in reaching the record, in the same way that all our daily actions are important n building a better future,” said a LEGO spokesperson.
