Mega Brands Inc. and California’s Activision Blizzard, Inc. have
signed a global licensing deal giving the Montreal company multi-year
rights to develop Mega Bloks- and Mega Puzzles-brand toys and puzzles
based on Skylanders Giants™. Giants is the Activision sequel to last
year’s top-selling kids’ video game IP, Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure™.
According to a Mega Brands press release, the Skylanders Spyro’s
Adventure video game franchise was the first to successfully merge real
toys and a virtual game world across leading videogame consoles.
“Starting this fall, Mega Bloks will take this adventure to another
level by offering kids and collectors the ability to build and rebuild
the wonderful characters and magical worlds from the new and highly
anticipated Skylanders Giants video game,” said a Mega Brands spokesman.
Mega Brands, which has had its share of financial woes in recent
years, is rebounding strongly with several new toy collections based on
popular licenses, such as Power Rangers Samurai and Barbie and Hot
Wheels.
